Although only 20 minutes from the coast and all its amenities, the tranquil location of Casa Beni, deep in the Axarquia region, allows you to make your own pace of life, taking in the crystal clear air of this outstandingly beautiful area. From here you can stroll, with your watercolours, to admire and paint the sights and smell the scents of Andalusia. Do some bird watching, photograph a spectacular sunset or, for the more intrepid, trek to the very top of Mount Maroma.
There is a public swimming-pool which is a great meeting place, having a restaurant and play area and a good place for the young to meet during the evenings when they hold BBQs and ping-pong matches.
Riding, mountain biking and quad biking into the countryside is freely available and a wonderful way to explore the interior of Andalusia.
Nearer the coast, between Velez Malaga and Torre del Mar there is an Aquapark and a little further west a go-cart track.
Within half an hour from the villa there are two golf courses, Baviera Golf and Anoreta Golf which are very reasonably priced.
The beaches of Torre del Mar are the closest but there are many other beaches and beach bars along the coast. Just to the east of Nerja is the famous Burriana Beach with its many little seaside restaurants and where one just has to eat Paella and drink Sangria!
Venture further afield to explore the other white villages in the area, including Comares and Competa. The enormous caves at Nerja, 30 minutes away, are a must. The old Spanish town of Antequera is still very unspoilt and beautiful Granada which is only one and a half hours away if one wanted to visit the Alhambra or ski in the Sierra Nevada.
Dont forget to visit Malaga, the birthplace of Picasso, with its character, culture and sophisticated shops. Or, for a change of scenery, nip down the coast to Marbella and Puerto Banus to catch up with the Jet Set.
Last, but definitely not least, visit the local village markets, a different one takes place on nearly every day of the week and you can fill your bags with presents to take back home.
